Hawthorn

🌿 Hawthorn

Weißdorn
Crataegus monogyna Jacq.
Hawthorn is a traditional European medicinal plant used primarily for the cardiovascular system. Its leaves and flowers contain flavonoids and oligomeric procyanidins, which are considered important contributors to its pharmacological activity. The fruits are also traditionally used.

Hawthorn is traditionally used to support cardiac function and circulation and for nervous heart palpitations. The European Medicines Agency recognises preparations of hawthorn leaf and flower, based on long-standing traditional use, for the relief of temporary heart complaints related to nervousness, such as palpitations, as well as mild mental stress and to aid sleep. Serious heart conditions should first be excluded by a doctor.
